PRESBYTERY VISION

The Presbytery of New Covenant has adopted Vision 2010:

“Growing congregations that passionately engage
their community to make disciples”

There are 3 major components to this vision:
Congregational growth
Community engagement
Disciple-making

The Presbytery of New Covenant provides programs and training opportunities for individuals in leadership in our Presbytery. Read more about Vision Consultants, Grants, Resources.

Recent studies are showing that churches must seek to understand the realities of today's culture and focus on spiritual formation and outward mission if they are to become faithful and growing congregations. A list of resources may be found at the bottom of this page.

Did you know ………….?

  • Only 10% of our population is in worship on any given Sunday?
  • The “context” has changed for many of our churches?
  • Modern and post-modern worldviews have diminished the relevance of faith in our culture?
  • Many churches have no sense of mission? No real passion?
  • More churches are dying than are being born?
  • Seminaries have not adjusted their curricula in the face of change?
  •  Many pastors have disengaged from Christ, viewing their jobs as a “profession”?
  •  Most churches still view one another as a competitive threat?

Then what if ……………..?

  • Pastors could re-engage with the heart of Christ?
  • Pastors and lay leaders could be renewed and equipped for the 21st century?
  • Churches could discover their mission in a redefined context?
  • Our churches could be re-energized and begin to experience organic growth?
  • We could evangelize the unchurched post-modern communities?
  • We could come together in a unified community of the Body of Christ?

CONSULTANTS

After extensive training, a group of women and men were commissioned by the presbytery to be Vision Consultants that would work with churches in the Presbytery of New Covenant, when requested. They are deployed in pairs to congregations who are willing to work intentionally with them in developing and implementing plans for engaging community and making disciples.

If your congregation would like to find out more about how you might work with one of these consultants, contact Wendy Bailey or Mary Marcotte at the presbytery office.

GRANTS

The presbytery has approved a process for funding special Vision Initiatives Grants from the generous bequest from the estate of Mrs. Cris Miller.

Priority in funding will be given to activities that result in increasing the overall membership of New Covenant Presbytery. Such increasing may be the result of new church development, redevelopment of established churches, general outreach to un-churched individuals or other approaches within the Mission of the Presbytery.

Priority in funding will be given to activities, which reach out as the Presbyterian Church to communities, groups, and organizations with the express purpose of increasing disciples.

Grant applications will be received between January 1 and March 31 for a funding year beginning July 1.
