The stated clerk is one of the two ecclesiastical officers of the presbytery which is required by the Form of Government part of the Book of Order, the church’s Constitution. In this capacity, the staff in the Office of the Stated Clerk works closely with colleagues at all levels of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
This office is responsible for recording the transactions of the presbytery, keeping its rolls of membership and attendance, the preservation of the records, and for furnishing extracts from the presbytery’s records, when required, to other governing bodies.
The Stated Clerk resources the leadership and congregations of the presbytery on issues of the interpretation of the Constitution . The Office of Constitutional Services at the national headquarters of the denomination is the primary authority for such interpretations.
The Stated Clerk is also responsible for organizing a Session Records Review of the session minutes for each church in the presbytery. In New Covenant, this review is through regional gatherings of clerks of session six or seven times during each year. Clerks from the churches meet to share mutual concerns, to receive in-service training, and to review each other’s session records.
At the same time and location as the Session Records Reviews, a Treasurer's Workshop will be offered.
