‘Being ALIVE in a Crazybusy World' - April 18-19

“I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly.”
                                                            –Jesus (John 10:10)

If there are any two words that describe the average American on any given day, they are: tired and busy. Our lives are not only full, they are crammed full. And we are always trying to figure out how to be more productive. And, in the midst of all this, we want to be disciples. To follow the One who promises us rest, who promises us peace, who promises us joy, who promises us life. But we’re not quite sure how to pull this off.

You are invited to the Jarboe Lecture Series at Grace P Presbyterian, Houston, a series designed to help us claim the abundant life Christ offers and to live this life not only for ourselves, but also for the world that God so loves. Rev. Dr. Cynthia Rigby, W.C. Brown Professor of Theology, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will preach Sunday, April 18 at the 9:00 and 11:15am worship services, and speak Sunday at 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 19, at noon, and Monday at 7:00 p.m.

Her lectures will address:
“Living From the Center: Christian Identity in a Crazybusy World”
“Living Toward the Kingdom: Work and Play in a Crazybusy World”
“Living in the World, But Not of It: Love and Hope in a Crazybusy World”

Childcare is available by contacting Debbie Kay, dkay@gpch.org by April 15. For more information, contact Rev. Katie Cummings, kcummings@gpch.org.

May 2: Is the “Environment” Harming Your Child?

War and Peace Concert - April 25

The Chancel Choir, Bel Canto Handbells, and Children’s Choir of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian (5308 Buffalo Speedway in West University, Houston) invites you to a concert called War and Peace, a concert of music meant to inspire peace in the midst of a conflicted world. The concert is April 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

The central piece of the concert is Franz Josef Haydn’s “Mass in Time of War” combining full orchestra, choir, and soloists. This work was written in 1796 as Napoleon was preparing to invade Haydn’s homeland. The tympani and trumpets Haydn uses in this work evoke thoughts of war even as the choir sings of peace.

The concert culminates with all of the singers, orchestra, and bells joining together in a festival arrangement of “Let There Be Peace on Earth” written by Dr. Jim Smith.

Childcare available.
