Brazilian NCD – Rev. Alcimar Dantas Dias, organizing pastor
Start up: 2004 Grant years: 2006-2012
Brazilian Presbyterian, a lively and spirit-filled congregation, reaches the Portuguese-speaking population of Houston. They currently are meeting at Korean Central Presbyterian Church.
Bellaire Vietnamese NCD - Rev. Danial Nguyen, organizing pastor
Worshipping at Westminster Presbyterian, Houston, this congregation is reaching out to the Vietnamese living in southwest Houston.
First African NCD – Rev. Aluu Williams Nnali, organizing pastor
Start up: October 2004 Grant years: 2006-2010
Begun as a mission of a Nigerian congregation in Grace Presbytery, this congregation worships together in an office building in southwest Houston. They have called an organizing pastor and are excited about their growth. This congregation is in their fourth year of funding from General Assembly, having received a five-year grant.
Hansarang NCD – Rev. Peter Lee, organizing pastor
Start up: January 2003 Grant years: 2005-2011
Hansarang is a Korean-speaking new church development in College Station. The congregation’s outreach is primarily to Korean graduate students and faculty at A&M University. They currently worship at Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station.Hansarang’s biggest challenge is the turn-over of members due to the nature of a college community, but they feel they are doing good work in preparing men, women and children for faithful church membership wherever God is calling them. They are in year five of a seven-year grant.
Iglesia Latina NCD – Rev. Aurelio Rodriguez, organizing pastor
Start up: 2000 Grant years: 2002-2009
Iglesia Latina is a Spanish-speaking new church plant in the Heights. Their pastor and his family emigrated from Mexico three years ago. Since his arrival, Iglesia Latina has been in a period of rejuvenation. They are in the last year of a grant from General Assembly.
Pathways of Houston NCD – Rev. Shawn Kang, organizing pastor
Start up: October 2004 Grant years: 2006-2010
Pathways Church of Houston specifically reaches out to young adults of pan-Asian descent in Houston. Currently meeting in the chapel of Central Presbyterian Church, they are quickly out-growing their space. In year four of a five-year grant from General Assembly, they are contemplating a second location.
Peace Presbyterian - Rev. Jim Gill, organizing pastor

Peace Presbyterian NCD worships in its new and beautifully designed storefront location in Pearland. Set in a newly developing area, the congregation is growing constantly. They worship at two services: one is contemporary; the other is blended in style. They pursue an active evangelism program in their growing community.
Thien An NCD – Rev. Viet Ho, organizing pastor
Start up: December 1998 Grant years: 2001-2007
Chartered: May 2008
Thien An is a congregation of Vietnamese-speaking Presbyterians worshipping in a storefront in southwest Houston. In May 2008 the congregation chartered with 88 members, all but ten of whom were previously Buddhist. The church’s primary outreach is through a computer lab and the computer classes it offers the public, as well as the evangelical work of the organizing pastor.
Bitsarang NCD – Rev. Ui Sik Cho, organizing pastor
Start up: 2003
Bitsarang began as a church plant by Korean Central Presbyterian Church. The congregation is currently worshipping in 2 locations: in a martial arts studio in The Woodlands and at the Huntsville Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. The congregation is now seeking General Assembly grant money to continue their growing ministry.
Biyaya Community NCD – Rev. Sam Fabila, organizing pastor

Chartered: May 18, 2008
Biyaya Community Church is a predominantly Filipino congregation of over 75 members. They are nested in Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City. Their worship is upbeat and conducted in English because of the youth and multicultural members of the congregation. In November 2007, the Presbytery approved their request to be chartered as a PC(USA) congregation.
Fuente de Esperanza – Rev. Mauricio Chacon, organizing pastor
Start up: April 2007
Fuente de Esperanza is the newest Barnabas project of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. It is a Spanish-speaking (mostly immigrant) congregation in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Members of the Barnabas team are also creating a business incubator in the community to help residents begin their own businesses in the community. This business incubator will not only be a primary mission of the congregation to the community, but will also eventually help fund the church.
Missio Dei – Rev. Corey McClellan, organizing pastor
Start Up: July 2005
Missio Dei was begun as as an outreach to un-churched and under-churched residents of the re-developing 77007 zip code area of Houston. The church is following a cell-celebration model, comprised mostly of community cell groups who meet together for worship once a month. The NCD has recently moved from oversight by MDPC to oversight by the Presbytery. The Presbytery is currently evaluating the ministry and considering a number of options to determine the appropriate strategy for this congregation.
Restoration Fellowship – Bob David, CLP, organizing pastor
Start up: June 2006
Restoration Fellowship is an NCD that is reaching out to the 12-step recovery community of Houston. They are worshipping on Saturday evenings at Heights Presbyterian Church. The 12-step program encourages participants to develop a spiritual life, but many recovering alcoholics and/or addicts do not feel accepted or comfortable in traditional churches. This congregation is designed to welcome them, relate to their needs, and support them in their recovery.
Barnabas 2008
Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (MDPC) has set a goal to begin a church each year for at least ten years through the Barnabas Ministry. Each new congregation is designed to reach a segment of the population, which would not be attracted to a traditional church like MDPC. We expect the Barnabas ministry to be recruiting members for its third team soon.
Lake Houston Presbyterian NCD
Exploration and feasibility grant received in 2006
Kingwood Presbyterian Church is planning on adapting the Barnabas model (from MDPC) to start a new church in the Summerwood/Lake Houston area. They have received an exploration and feasibility grant from the General Assembly and Synod in 2006 and have already begun Bible studies in the community.
Telefair & Sienna Plantation
Exploration and feasibility grant received in 2006
Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City has secured an exploration and feasibility grant from the General Assembly and Synod at the end of 2006 to explore the possibility of starting two “mission outposts” in two of the large subdivisions along the US59 corridor.
United Ghanaian Presbyterian Fellowship - Ebenezer Darko Boateng, pastor
Ernest Anane-Sakyere. evangelist
A group of Presbyterian Ghanaian immigrants are currently worshipping at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Houston. The congregation has requested to be a new church development in the Presbytery of New Covenant.
West Montgomery NCD - pastor arriving soon
A new church development committee developed relationships with First Conroe, Tomball, Navasota, and the Woodlands Community churches in order to begin a new church in West Montgomery County, identified as a desirable area for a new Presbyterian Church.
Sudanese Community - David Kurr, evangelist
This community of Sudanese immigrants and refugees worships at ChristChurch, Bellaire. They have a mission-outreach to the community through the Sudanese Community Center.
