Outreach Ministries

Mission Statement of Outreach Ministries

Acting on Christ’s call to serve, the Outreach Ministries Committee is an advocate for the global and local outreach of the Presbytery, its congregations, and the wider church. We will pray, and serve as a prophetic voice for peace and justice in the following ways:

  • Evaluate and support existing and innovative mission and service opportunities;

  • Cultivate connectional and cooperative relationships with congregations, and interfaith and community organizations;

  • Facilitate the exchange of information about needs, issues, opportunities, and programs.

Chair: Elder Gary Long

Benevolent Giving

New Covenant's Outreach Ministry administers our benevolent giving and supports both local and global mission efforts. Outreach is working to establish firm covenantal agreements with all supported organizations, and to promote opportunities available to congregations through the Central American Partnership, Justice and Peacemaking program, Global Mission program, and Self Development of People program.

Supported Organizations:

Campus Ministry: We have growing ministry programs for students at several campus locations in our presbytery's bounds:

CEDEPCA: Central American Evangelical Center for Pastoral Studies (New Covenant maintains a strong partnership with the center, sponsoring exchanges with third world churches that enrich both communities.

CIH-Christmas International House: This program matches international college students with host families for the Christmas holidays.

CUPS - Communidades Unidas Pro Salud: This ecumenical organization organizes volunteer work projects along the Texas/Mexico border including medical clinics, water purification stations, schools, and housing.

IM-Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston: This organization enables people and congregations to provide for those in need and works in cooperation with the presbytery and the PCUSA to fund a refugee resettlement coordinator who works with local congregations to sponsor refugee families.

International Seafarer's Ministry: This ministry provides pastoral care to seafarer's from across the globe. Seafarer's who visit one of the five seafarer's centers have access to counseling, telephones, recreation, and worship services.

POP Ministry-Presbyterian Outreach to Patients: POP provides pastoral care to Presbyterians as they receive treatment at the Texas Medical Center.

Presbyterian Service Center: The center provides low cost housing for people with physical handicaps.
